Largest Regional APA Conference

Over 850 land-use professionals have already signed up for the APA 2000 Region VI Conference in Long Beach, from September 16-19. (For info on location and onsite registration, please visit the Conference Web site at www.la-apa.org/conference.)This annual gathering of the American Planning Association’s Region VI (California and Nevada) promises not only extremely diverse sessions (covering everything from new technologies in planning to the latest tools to promote pedestrian-oriented design), but also an incredible array of attendees from all land-use fields—including planning, architecture, development, law, engineering, environmental consulting and more.Harvard University’s Ron Heifetz, noted respected author and leadership expert, will kick off on Sunday with a discussion based on his new book, "Leadership Without Easy Answers." Then Cal State Long Beach’s James Manseau-Sauceda will share tools for engaging increasingly diverse communities in action. Finally, on Tuesday, California State Treasurer Philip Angelides closes the conference with his latest thinking on the "Double Bottom Line" and "Smart Investments" that leverage public dollars with private investments to create better communities.
