Demolition of the ostensibly failed modernist development Punta Perotti in Bari, southern Italy, was completed on April 2, to make room for the 10th International Architecture Exhibition (includes videos).

"The question that arises now is how to protect the site from building speculators and other unsuitable projects.

This is one of the sites selected for the Project South, a section of the Venice Architecture Biennale September -- November 2006. The exhibition is intended to propose a series of projects developed for the Venice Biennale -- Sensi contemporanei, aimed at the restoration of the coastal landscape of Southern Italian cities, which has the demolition of unsightly buildings present on the selected sites as a prerequisite."

"Project South is directly inspired by Venice Project promoted by Aldo Rossi in the 3rd International Architecture Exhibition in 1985, and uses it as a model. In this sense Project South is also a tribute to Aldo Rossi, and is proposed in continuity with its cultural action."
