Governor Davis announces $59.2 million in grants to improve traffic safety.

Gov. Gray Davis announced on Thursday the designation of 206traffic safety grants totaling $59.2 million for communities throughoutthe state. The grant projects include bicycle education programs,driving under the influence prevention programs, and emergency medicalservices. Californians have ranked traffic safety as one of their topquality of life concerns, Davis said, and through thesecommunity-oriented grants, California streets will be safer and morepedestrian-friendly.The approved list of grants is available on the web site.
