On April 19, Women's Housing and Economic Development Corproation (Whedco) broke ground on the environmentally-friendly complex. High-efficiency boilers and 100 shade trees will keep energy costs low, and a green roof system will reduce air pollution and absorb storm water runoff. Whedco President Nancy Biberman explains that the building's tenants, "do not have the money to take a break from city life and be in a place that's green and quiet and beautiful. If people can't afford to go there, then we're going to bring it to them."
