Poway, California, wants to take the afternoon off on May 22. In an attempt to reduce community stress and bring families together, the town will celebrate Family Focus Night between the hours of 5 and 9 p.m.
"For the past year, a group of citizens has lobbied leaders of the town's schools, businesses, churches and sports leagues to clear their calendars, so that on the evening of May 22, folks [in Poway] will be free to do...nothing." The time period chosen for Family Focus night was carefully selected to maximize the potential for family members to clear their schedules and come together for some quality time.
While Poway itself mimicked "Ready, Set, Relax!" day in Ridgewood, New Jersey, other towns are now contacting Poway leaders about recreating Family Focus Night in their own communities.
