With the seven-county Central Florida region projected to double its population by 2050, coordinated planning is critical. The think tank myregion.org will start a 15-month visioning process with a meeting May 17th.
For the next 15 months, meetings will be held in Volusia, Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, and Seminole counties to explain project goals and collect citizen input on how the region should develop. Findings of the study are to reach the Governor by May 2007. "Volusia County Chairman Frank Bruno said he hopes the process will prevent county leaders from being blindsided by decisions in other counties..."
"A study by myregion.org found that Central Floridians support efforts to preserve the environment and provide access to natural recreational areas more strongly than they back economic growth and development." The visioning process should provide local leaders with citizen input about issues that are significant to residents in this fast-growing portion of a fast-growing state.
