"Following the 1992 riots, the City of Los Angeles leased the land at Alameda and 41st streets to the regional food bank. Today, mostly Latino immigrants tend their personal plots of vegetables, herbs and fruit trees. However, Ralph Horowitz bought the land from the City in 2003, and is trying to sell the 14 acres for $16.3 million. When community acivists trying to preserve the farm came up $10 million short, they asked Hollywood celebrities to help them. Darryl Hannah claims to spend evenings strumming her guitar. Joan Baez sang for the activists and the media"
