Vacation travel for the Washington area is expected to surpass last year's forcast.
"The conditions for a big summer getaway might not seem favorable. Gas prices are high, the luck of the calendar means that some people will have to be back at work Monday, and some unfortunate residents are still contending with the consequences of record rains that pounded the region this week...The vast majority of that travel will be by car, AAA said, with its surveys showing that air travel would be flat compared with last year's holiday. The reason, Townsend said, might be because work prevents some travelers from taking a full four-day weekend, leading them to stay closer to home. Most residents will be taking either a two- or four-day weekend this time around."
