The number of new homes with porches increased has nationwide over the past 10 years.
As part of the growing architectural trend related to New Urbanism, an increasing number of new homes are being designed and built with front porches.
"Nationally, the number of new houses with front porches increased from 42 percent in 1994 to 52 percent in 2004, according to the National Association of Home Builders."
However, some developers cite that homes with porches often sell for a comparable price as homes without porches, even though a front porch can add tens of thousands of dollars to the cost of construction.
