Bay Area Residents Will Vote On Urban Growth Boundry

After years of debate by local officials, Contra Costa County will be asked to approve an urban limit line intended to preserve farmland and open space.

More than a decade after voters approved a urban limit line in Contra Costa County, east of San Francisco, the County's Board of Supervisors have placed a new, more constricted line on the November ballot.

"A voter-approved urban limit line is necessary to comply with Measure J, which voters passed in 2004. That measure provides needed transportation funds for the county and cities once the growth-limit line is in place."

A measure to increase the amount of land off-limits to development failed in 2000 due to opposition from several cities.
