Officials hope to revive service between Central Connecticut and New York City for the first time in 35 years.
The plans call for weekday commuter rail service between New Haven, Hartford and Springfield, Mass.
"Connecticut officials and their western Massachusetts counterparts believe the commuter line could ease highway congestion and create jobs by boosting the region's economic development."
The Metro-North New Haven Line, which connects New Haven to New York City, is already the nation's busiest commuter line, with 120,000 trips daily.
