Planning commissioners from Santa Clarita, California, have recent visited several Southern California cities with affordable housing ordinances in hopes of gaining insight for a possible inclusionary housing ordinance.
"With the median price of a single-family home in Santa Clarita about $600,000, the term 'affordable housing' probably seems archaic and maybe even a bit ridiculous to some potential homebuyers, but city officials are hoping to ensure that reasonably priced homes survive.
The City is discussing...the idea of creating a city ordinance requiring developers to include and provide certain numbers of affordable units."
