Government policies have led to over three quarters of new homes in Britain being built on recycled land.

"The Campaign for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) said the figure - up from 57% a decade ago - showed that local authorities and planners were standing up to developers and forcing them to regenerate urban spaces."

"Out of a total of more than 300 councils in England outside London, 43 have succeeded in having at least 90% of their new homes built on previously developed land."
