Officials cite several energy-cutting projects in their call for demand management to reduce energy consumption.
Under mandate from the state Public Utilities Commission, the County of Maui has identified several non-fossil fuel sources for use in generating electricity. So far the proposed plan does not identify who will do what or that the alternative fuel projects will actually be developed. Private sources of energy have not been ruled out.
"With the draft plans, we want to share with the community what we’ve put together," officials say. "We'll gather public input, tweak the plans and file with the Public Utilities Commission."
