In the thirty years since the first World Urban Forum in Vancouver, Canada's third largest city has developed its own style of integrated planning for a more sustainable urban form. This style of planning successfully integrates all dimensions of city planning, from transport to affordable housing to recreation planning, and has become known as 'Vancouverism'.
Vancouver's success demonstrates not only models for creating high-density urban spaces that are livable, but also highlights the critical importance of leadership, vision and governance in achieving sound planning.
