It may not be obvious, but the new building for Berkeley City College embraces sustainable design.
The new six-story, 165,000-square-foot building that houses Berkeley City College in downtown Berkeley, California isn’t quite finished yet â€" but that doesn’t stop architecture critic John King from appreciating the sustainable design that inhabits the structure. The energy-efficient construction and the use of recycled materials is intended address environmental principles as well as the bottom line, by cutting fuel bills. The building is one of 4,500 in the pipeline seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification by the US Green Building Council.
