Stockholders in JCDecaux, the world's largest street furniture company, are smiling after the company announced higher profits due to growing demand for advertisements in airports and transit stops.
Over 35 years ago, a young Jean-Claude Decaux came up with the idea to build bus shelters for free in exchange for the right to sell advertising on them. Today, the company now reached 31 countries and more than 11,000 cities.
The company recently announced that its "first-half profit rose 29 percent as demand for advertisements in airports and public- transport systems boosted revenue."
"Demand for transport ads helped increase first-half sales 13 percent, the company said. The transport advertising unit's second-quarter sales rose 33 percent to 126.9 million euros, the company said in July."
