Ten homes on the 2006 tour for "Architecture and the City" month in San Francisco highlight what's hot in local residential design.

Glass, light, and efficient use of compact spaces are some frequent themes in ten buildings featured on the 2006 San Francisco residential architecture tour organized by the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Rehabs and renovations of older structures as well as new construction are all featured among the ten selected homes. Highlighted homes include a remodeled 1923 cottage newly outfitted with an oak floating staircase, a mixed-use endeavor that combines three rental townhouses with a small catering business, and 67 units of affordable housing for very low income families.
