More than half of the residents in the small unincorporated community of Henderson Point, Mississippi, turned out to help begin planning for the rebuilding of their completely devastated community.
Only 20 homes were left standing after Hurricane Katrina decimated this small seaside community. Despite the total destruction, the citizens of Henderson Point have united together to work on a rebuilding plan.
"During part of [a recent community] meeting audience members eagerly took live votes via an electronic voting system (the same kind used in New York City to vote on how to rebuild Ground Zero) on what kind of dwellings and development they wanted to see in town. Every time residents were asked to vote on anything that even resembled a condominium development, more than three-quarters rejected it."
