The Fresno County Board of Supervisors solidified a new general, a guideline for the next 20 years that emphasizes city-centered growth and the preservation of farmland.
The plananticipates a growing population, from 800,000 residents today, to 1.1million by 2020, and 93% of the new residents will be steered towardcities. Fresno plans to contain the growth within its current urbangrowth boundaries, and aims to do so with compact developmentstrategies, economic diversification, and discouraging the creation ofrural lots. While the plan generated general praise, the League of WomenVoters of Fresno expressed disappointment that the environmental reportdid not emphasize the link between land use, transportation, and airquality , and thus missed creative solutions to improve air quality.
