There Goes The Town

As its first residential subdivision is approved, developers are banking that the tiny town of Hebron, Illinois, will be the location for the next wave of Chicago's suburban growth.

"Hebron sits squarely in the path of development spreading from neighboring communities in McHenry County. It's rich black soil--known as some of the best and most threatened farmland in the nation--is being turned over to build the village's first subdivisions."

"Plans for 850 homes in five subdivisions have been approved. The latest development of 60 homes and commercial lots got the green light from the Village Board last month."

"Hebron's population of 1,200 is expected to triple within the next decade. In a sure sign that change has arrived, the village recently hired its first planner, who starts work in January."
