Record Funding For Transportation On Election Day Ballots

33 transportation-related ballot measures worth more than $55 billion face voters this election.

On November 7, voters in 13 states will decide the fate of 33 ballot measures related to transportation spending totaling more than $55 billion in new investment.

This year's election looks to continue a trend of increase transportation finance through voter-approved referenda. From 2000 - 2005, more than 200 such measures were approved in 33 different states. In recent years, transportation measures have been popular with voters, passing at twice the rate of ballot measure generally.

Among the most significant measures this year are a $20 billion statewide bond measure in California, a one-cent sales tax in Broward County (FL), constitutional amendments regarding dedicated funding in Minnesota and New Jersey, and new tax measures in the Salt Lake City metro area.
