There are significant problems with the Copper River Ranch plan in light of League of Women Voters' positions on transportation, land use and air quality.
In response to a Sept. 13 commentary by Gary McDonald, Mary Savala and Faye Wall, co-presidents of the League of Women Voters, assert there are significant problems with the Copper River Ranch plan in light of League positions on transportation, land use and airquality. While the Fresno General Plan Update states that there is enough room to accommodate the next 20 years of growth within city limits, the Copper River Ranch development lies outside of urban boundaries, Savala and Wall state. In addition, the loss of agricultural land and negative impact on traffic and the quality of the air make Copper River Ranch a prime example of sprawl, the co-presidents assert, despite McDonald's claim otherwise. For more information on League policy positions, go to the League of Women Voters of California (LWV),http://www.ca.lwv.org.
