Northeastern Ohio cities are hoping to lure residents back to the "first suburbs."
For middle-class Clevelanders, Euclid's lakefront community was their first taste of suburbia. "By the 1970s, however, Euclid - its commercial districts tottering, its housing slipping, its roads deteriorating - became a zip code residents couldn't wait to escape. Now, Euclid and about a dozen other northeastern Ohio cities are fighting back, hoping to lure residents and business back to the ''first suburbs'' - the inner tier of oldersuburbs sandwiched between often-distressedcentral cities and newer, booming 'edge' communities."
