Thousands Protest Regional Plan In India

Thousands of protesters in the Indian state of Goa have turned out to voice their concerns against the Goa Regional Plan, a government move to open up much of the state's lands for construction.

"The plan opens up acres of land along Goa's coast, its hills, and its farmlands for construction. It also violates the government's own rules and okays development of protected and restricted areas."

"Elections in Goa are only six months away and given the levels of anger it's unlikely the plan will go through."

The large turnout prompted elected officials to denounce the plan.

"I don't know how this plan has been passed without clearances. It needs to be re-looked at,' said Pratapsinh Rane, Chief Minister, Goa."
