The lengthy list of candidates for the top job at the Boston Redevelopment Agency includes architect and Harvard professor Alex Krieger.

"Harvard urban planning guru Alex Krieger has long been one of City Hall's favorite architects. Now Krieger is being talked about by insiders as a top candidate to head the city's most powerful agency, the Boston Redevelopment Authority."

"Krieger joins a field jampacked with candidates. Robert Culver, head of MassDevelopment, is also mentioned as a top contender. Culver, who heads the state authority that finances new development, is friendly with Menino and recently had breakfast with him."

"But the mayor so far appears to be relying on Culver for advice on who to pick. And Culver has two other strikes against him - he lives in Milton, not Boston, and makes roughly $275,000 a year."

"Meanwhile, these relatively big-name outside candidates will have some well-placed insiders to contend with too. Kairos Shen, the BRA's star planner, is a top internal candidate, as one of Menino's department chiefs."
