According to a Smart Growth America poll: Americans want growth and green and demand solutions to traffic, haphazard development.

According to Smart Growth America's September 2000 NationalSurvey on Growth and Land Development ( http://www.smartgrowthamerica.com/ ) , 78% of U.S. residents favor"smart growth" in their state - where the improvement of services suchas affordable housing, transit, roads and other development occurs inexisting communities rather than surrounding open space. Of the 1,007adults surveyed, 47% "strongly" favor governments prioritizing themaintenance of services in existing communities rather than encouragingnew development in the countryside.
