According to the National Association of Home Builders http://www.nahb.com ) president Robert L. Mitchell, tight restrictionson growth are pushing up the cost of housing past affordable levels formany young American families. While growth boundaries are oftenestablished in efforts to protect the environment during times ofeconomic expansion, policy makers must prioritize planning for a broadmix of housing options, Mitchell states. As population levels continueto increase, the burden of anti-growth policies increasingly affectslow- and middle income families. Smart growth tactics that curb sprawlbut allow for growth will "yield tremendous benefits for futuregenerations," Mitchell asserts.
