Under advice from parking guru Donald Shoup, North Carolina's capital is rethinking its parking requirements.

"For the most part, the city's parking regulations are nearly 50 years old. Raleigh has stretched and grown to encompass four times as many people. City planners think it's time to take another look. They'll start studying the regulations this summer.

The investigation comes after an entertaining critique of common parking practices at a talk in Raleigh last year by Donald Shoup, a parking expert and urban planning professor at University of California Los Angeles."
