In an effort to make public involvement fun and educational, the York County Planning Commission in Pennsylvania developed a tournament bracket to assess priorities for long-range plan.
"Officials are using new game to learn what the public thinks are transportation priorities"
"The game, developed by local transportation planners and available online at http://www.ycpc.org, will help officials figure out what the public believes the transportation priorities for the next 25 years should be."
"The game is intended to show the public that there really is a competition between projects for funding, said Will Clark, senior transportation planner with the York County Planning Commission."
"Gathering information from the brackets will be the first step in developing the long-range transportation plan for 2009 to 2035, he said."
Participants must pick a "winner" between these competing categories: Capacity, Safety, Transit, Homeland Security/Incident Management, Rail Freight, Bridges, Enhancements, Maintenance.
