Georgia and South Carolina have announced plans to build a port at the mouth of the Savannah River, jointly operated by the two states.
"The much-disputed port would be built along the Savannah River just down river from land owned by the state of Georgia. The proposed 1,800-acre facility would be operated jointly by the two states and may attract huge private investment."
"Under the plan, the authority would be 50-50 owned by Georgia and South Carolina, according to a joint news release. The two states would also split the land acquisition and administrative costs of the authority, which would buy the land from Georgia Department of Transportation for 'fair market value.'"
"Private companies would be invited to submit proposals to participate in the development of the first phase of the so-called Jasper Terminal Site, using private capital, the release said."
