A bid is up for new street furniture in Toronto. Three firms have submitted their proposals for innovative street furniture, public restrooms, and bus stops. Some of the designs can be seen in this slideshow.
"Three private firms are bidding on a 20-year contract to replace Toronto's aging hodgepodge of benches, transit shelters and garbage and recycling cans, in return for the right to make money from advertising on some of the new structures. (The city is also supposed to get a cut.) Their designs, which will be reviewed by a panel of local architects, planners and designers, were released yesterday. City bureaucrats will review the designs and submit recommendations to city council on April 30."
