Amid highly charged rhetoric that urban development is paving over Americas farmland, a new study by Reason Public Policy Institute (RPPI) reveals that farmland loss rates have moderated significantly over the past several decades. Only approximately 5.4 percent of U.S. land was developed by 1997. The study notes, however, that numerous governmental policies contribute to the inefficient transition of farmland.
