Vancouver Releases Charter For Future Growth

The city of Vancouver has released a list of planning proposals it hopes will become the guiding document for future growth and development in the city. The main proposals include increasing density and open spaces.

"The charter, which contains dozens of proposals, is intended to become a guiding document to transform Vancouver into a model of high-density living combined with cutting-edge environmental practices."

"'This is a generational to-do list,' says Vancouver's new planning director, Brent Toderian. 'Council has challenged us to be bold and we are.'"

"The draft charter includes six guiding principles, a list of strategic directions and several dozen suggested actions. It expands the original concept beyond just increasing density to include goals for affordable housing, sustainable business practices, transit planning, new park uses, and even reconfiguring roads."
