Land values have risen considerably in the lastfew years, and while funds for organizations like the MidpeninsulaRegional Open Space District ( http://www.openspace.org/ ) and TheNature Conservancy ( http://www.tnc.org ) have risen, organization'sfunds are often unable to keep pace with rising costs of land. Increasedcompetition for land from developers and businesses is forcingpreservation groups to be more discriminating in the land they decide topurchase, and it also decreases the amount of land they are able topreserve.
