Penn State University researchers are studying how drivers respond to business signs. "The study was commissioned by the United States Sign Council, an industry trade group that approached the university's Pennsylvania Transportation Institute complaining of stricter design regulations from planning and zoning boards." Researchers planted fakes signs in the city varying "sign size, distance and direction from the road, lighting and the time of day."
