Building Restrictions Pit Builders Against City

City officials in a Boston suburb are once again trying to approve building restrictions that would cut down the size of new houses in the city. Builders' groups are lobbying the city to find a compromise.

"For the second time in six months, the board is considering building curbs that could trigger special site plan reviews for new and renovated homes exceeding 4,500 square feet, or with especially dense building-to-lot-size ratios."

"A builders' group that has been campaigning against size limits for months said it is hoping to reach a compromise with the town soon."

"Otherwise, the group of nearly 30 contractors may abandon a program of voluntary size restraints presented to the town earlier this year as a good-will measure, said organizer Joseph Grignaffini, a longtime Wellesley builder and Town Meeting member."
