"New Jersey saw a 34 percent increase in its amount of developed land per person between 1982 and 1997. That increase - from 0.17 acres per person to 0.23 acres per person - was the 10th-largest percentage increase in the nation. Opinion polls and surveys show that people are concerned about sprawl eroding quality of life. At the same time groups such as the NationalAssociation of Home Builders feel that such anti-growth sentiment a "simplistic assessment of an incredibly complex problem."
