Short-Changing America's Youth

"As parents, we always want the best for our children, and being educated in trailers in the richest country in the world is not what I consider the best we can offer to our future. After visiting these mobile units during a recent open house and seeing firsthand where my son would spend his days, I found that they weren't as bad as I thought -- but still not ideal.

Though the class was beautifully decorated and the teacher seemed qualified, I still left feeling that this was not the best we could do. There are administrators and other parents who will champion these mobile units and say our focus should be elsewhere, such as improving test scores. But I disagree. We are too accepting of lower standards. You see, it's not just the mobile units that disturb me, but society's unwillingness to place emphasis on the education of our youth."
