The Columbus Planning Department is about to bring a Traditional Development Code before the City Council that would amend the existing zoning code. This neo-traditional code will allow mixes of housing types and uses within the same neighborhood. Advocates of the code believe that its narrow streets and great density of housing will help meet a need for moderately priced housing, create a greater sense of community and reduce sprawl. The City would join the likes of Austin, Texas and the other pioneers of traditional neighborhood development across the country.
