Sky-High Transbay Terminal Design Selected

A team has been selected to build the new Transbay Terminal in San Francisco, which may result in the construction of an office tower of more than 1,200 feet.

"There could be a 1,200-foot office tower in San Francisco's future - and a 5.4 acre park on top of a new transit terminal."

"The team headed by Pelli Clarke Pelli and the Hines development firm was selected today to enter into exclusive negotiations to buy more than an acre of land next to the Transbay Terminal on Mission Street. With the land would come an expectation of being able to erect a tower at least as tall as the Transamerica Pyramid, which at 853 feet is the city's highest structure."

"Although the authority board was unanimous today in their decision to select the Hines-Pelli team, several members said they expected the tower to eventually include both residential and commercial space. The original tower proposal included only commercial space."
