A report on Portland, Oregon, residents' visions for the future of their city has been released. The people say they want the future of their city to be pretty much the same as its present, just slightly better.

"The visionPDX report follows a process started by Mayor Tom Potter to survey residents about their overarching hopes and goals for the city."

"The result: an agreeable but unsurprising list of core values, topped by community connectedness and distinctiveness, equity and accessibility, and sustainability. Others included accountability and leadership, inclusion and diversity, innovation and creativity, and safety."

"Portlanders want to preserve the city's progressive spirit and its caring, healthy, laid-back, environmentally conscious uniqueness. They also want to make sure all residents can share its prosperity."

"The report cites several challenges to the vision, including skepticism about higher taxes and developer subsidies, and conflict between the local and global economies."
