Maryland has announced a dynamic, six-year $750 million transit program designed to create the next generation of mass transit in Maryland. The program is structured around five key areas of investment: implementation of Smart Card and other cutting edge technology, simplification of the base transit fare structure around the State, purchase of new buses and rail cars along with other initiatives to provide customers with a better ride, expansion of existing service to better connect people and opportunities, and development of new transit options including neighborhood shuttles.
