Orange County plans to preserve some of its agricultural heritage by transforming the Irvine Ranch into a regional historic park.
"The sixrancher homes, a mess hall, a carriage barn and a bathhouse on the Irvine Ranch - once a thriving agricultural empire - sit abandoned on a dusty lot, resembling something of a ghost town. This rich piece of Orange County history on 16.5 acres east of Jamboree Road and Irvine Boulevard goes virtually unnoticed near the neon lights and traffic of Tustin Market Place. County officials hope to breathe life into the Irvine Ranch by transforming it into a regional park frequented by visitors who want a glimpse of life during the days of Irvine city founder James Irvine II."
