US Logging Curtailed In National Forests

A new federal rule will prevent any major expansion of logging in the national forest system.

No new roads may be built and no new logging activities will be begun in the national forest system. Opponents say that no new roads mean that fire fighting equipment will not have access and so the forests will burn down. Advocates claim that the ruling will have long-term ecological and economical benefits.
