Injecting Public Space into Palm Springs

Palm Springs -- once the epicenter of Spring Break -- is criticized by many for lacking public spaces. Now, a collection of architects, planners and urban designers have put out some ideas for improving the city.

"About a dozen ideas for how Palm Springs could be redeveloped will be on display today during an exhibition at the Palm Springs Art Museum called "Palm Springs Re-Imagined." The event is part of Modernism Week, which ends Sunday."

"The event is not commissioned by the city of Palm Springs, nor is the City Council planning to run with any of the ideas presented. They are just that - ideas."

"Architects, designers and urban planners from around the country were asked to conceptualize how downtown could be reinvigorated. The challenge was to create an inviting pedestrian experience while preserving the city's historic heritage and architectural gems."
