TheWashington Post reports that the group recently claimed it set offfirebombsin four houses of the 49-home Island Estates development in Mount Sinai,NewYork. ELF evidently sees sprawl as yet another destroyer of theenvironmentand targets new development. Over the past four years, ELF has claimedfiresset in luxury houses in Arizona, a resort and mansion in Colorado, and alumber company office in Oregon. The group faxed a press release abouttheMount Sinai bombings, calling them "an early New Year's gift to LongIsland's environment destroyers." Although the FBI says the group posesamajor domestic terrorist threat, some question whether ELF reallyexists.
