Cities, developers and transit authorities are working to replace parking lots around stations with mixed-used developments.

Cities like Atlanta and Portland, and regions like the San Francisco Bay and Tri-State Area are changing the way transit stations are developed. Instead of large parking lots, transit officials and residents are working to create mixed-use developments around stations, with mixed income housing and goods and services that ultimately hopes to reduce car trips. -The full text can be found in the January 2001 issue of Planning Magazine.
