This new guidance released by the Environmental Protection Agency Officeof Transportation and Air Quality (OTAQ) is designed for state and localplanners and government officials to help develop strategies to improveair quality as communities grow. Espousing "smart growth" concepts, theguidance shows how local land use choices, such as mixed-usedevelopment, infill projects, and urban redevelopment, can account for areduced number of vehicle miles traveled and thus help improve airquality.
