The City of Stockton, California votes to impose a temporary moratorium on the demolition of potentially historic buildings to allow staff time to create a permanent ordinance.

"A downtown developer said Monday it plans to demolish the historic Kendall Building, Steve's Hotel and an adjacent commercial building on Weber Avenue, though the City Council is likely today to impose a 45-day moratorium on the demolition of those and any other buildings at least 50 years old."

"Meanwhile, the property would be made a parking lot, he said."

"The City Council itself decided last year to demolish and make parking lots of at least four vacant hotels."

"A group of preservationists, Save Old Stockton, sued to stop the demolition. The case remains in court."
